I’ll add more to this page over the time. I’m lucky enough to live in a gorgeous part of the Rockies in British Columbia. I have a range of bike routes available – from hilly to time trial flat! I’ve provided some links below which will give the routes and profile from the mapmyrun website. I’ll add photos soon too.
If you live in the area, give them a go.
1. Route from between Sparwood and Elkford to Fording River mine – 93k round trip – total ascent 600m (2000feet) – 510m out and 90m back!
I found this route just recently – and even though it was a mix of snow, hail and sun, I had an absolute ball! The terrain varies from 20% at parts to rolling – going out it’s a general climb up – you earn the trip back down! On a Saturday afternoon I saw 3 cars going my way and about 10 coming the opposite direction. All left me plenty of room as they passed! The scenery is beautiful – it reminds very much of Scotland – one of the most beautiful areas in the world.
2. Route from Koocanusa Lake to Newgate (just before the border with the States) – about 80km round trip – total ascent 460m (1500feet)
I did this a few times last year – it’s gives a good rolling road, the paving is good and there isn’t a great deal of traffic to worry about either. The road twists and winds its way down to the States with some great views of Koocanusa Lake as you go.
2. Route from Wardner to Fort Steele – about 60km round trip – total ascent 300m (1000feet)
This is a pretty flat route, the scenery really is gorgeous, so if don’t want something to hilly, it’s definitely worth a go! There’s a great gas station at the Fort Steele end where you can get great ice cream
